DISCLOSURE OF VEHICLE CONDITION FORMS FOR HURRICANE KATRINA & HURRICANE RITA

A "Disclosure of Vehicle Condition" form IS NO LONGER REQUIRED for the issuance a Permit to Sell, UNLESS the vehicle was stored during either Hurricane Katrina or Rita. The affected areas are zip codes beginning with 700, 701, 702, 703, 704 and 706.

We hope this will speed up the issuance of your permit applications.

CALCULATING WHEN A FINAL NOTICE IS DUE

There has been some confusion about how to calculate when a Final Notice can be sent. A Final Notice is to be mailed AFTER forty-five (45) days from when the vehicle was placed in storage, no sooner. Therefore, this means the Final Notice is not to be mailed until the forty-sixth (46th) day counting the date of storage as day one (1). The office of Motor Vehicles has assured us there will be no files rejected due to this misunderstanding by everyone for the time being. T.R.P.L. is mailing the Final Notices accordingly for the letter customers. Remember, NO Final Notice is needed when filing a vehicle under the Junk Car Act.

**NEW STORAGE RATE INCREASE APPROVED!

In response to the request made by Towing & Recovery Professionals of Louisiana, the Louisiana Public Service Commission has issued General Order No. R-27182-B stating the new non-consensual storage rates.

Effective June 2, 2004, the new rates are as follows:

$14.00 per day for outside storage

$17.00 per day for inside storage

At the June 18, 2003 Commission’s Business and Executive Session, the Commission voted to include covered with the inside storage category.

**PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION UPDATE

The Louisiana Public Service Commission will now be enforcing the rule that requires all bills for non-consensual towing and/or recovery to include the following language printed on the bottom of the bill:

"Complaints may be addressed to the Louisiana Public Service Commission - Attention Transportation Division, P.O. Box 91154, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70821"

T.R.P.L. has some stamps remaining at the office with this language that you can purchase for $20.00. Please visit WWW.TRPL.ORG again for more news.
